Songvår Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Songvår Lighthouse
The Songvår Lighthouse, a white cylindrical tower with a red lantern, was built in 1955. It rises from one end of a 1-1/2 story keeper's house on a small island approximately 5 km south of Søgne. The original lighthouse station was established in 1888, and remnants of its foundation can still be seen. Although the lighthouse was deactivated in 2004, a local group, Songvår Fyrs Venner, formed in 2005 and led a restoration effort. The site is now open to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: Restored by the town of Søgne and the Songvår Fyrs Venner, this former lighthouse is now a cultural and tourism destination offering overnight stays in the keeper's house.
