About Smørhavn Lighthouse
Also known as: Smørhavn (Smørhamn, Fiskholmen)
Smørhavn Lighthouse stands on a skerry off the southwestern point of Bremangerlandet island, marking the northern approach to Frøysjøen sound. The current square skeletal tower, clad in white siding and topped with an octagonal lantern and gallery, was built in 1936. It replaced an earlier lighthouse established in 1871, the ruins of which are still present. The light emits an occulting white signal with red and green sectors every 6 seconds and has a geographic range of 14.5 nautical miles. The tower reaches a focal height of 26 meters.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for vessels entering Frøysjøen sound from the north, guiding them through potentially hazardous waters with its precise sector light.
