About Slettnes Lighthouse
Also known as: Slettnes (Slettneset) (1 and 2)
The Slettnes Lighthouse is situated on a mainland promontory, two kilometers north of Slettnes. This fiberglass tower, standing 6 meters tall, displays a white light with two black horizontal bands and a red roof. It emits two white flashes every 8 seconds, with red and green sectors also present. The current structure replaced an earlier wooden tower. While the tower itself is closed to the public, the surrounding site is accessible.
Why it matters: Slettnes Lighthouse is the northernmost mainland lighthouse on Earth, guiding vessels along the Barents Sea coast within the Slettnes Nature Reserve.
