About Shiraisishima Kō Lighthouse
Shiraisishima Kō is a red, 8.5-meter concrete lighthouse located at the end of the main breakwater for Shiraisi Shima. It features a square, one-story concrete equipment room at its base and stands 12 meters above sea level. The lighthouse emits a single red flash every 5 seconds, visible for 11 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed. The lighthouse is situated near Kasaoka in Japan's Okayama Prefecture.
Why it matters: This lighthouse clearly marks the end of the main breakwater, preventing collisions with the harbor entrance structure and ensuring safe passage for vessels entering and exiting the port.
