Shioya Saki Lighthouse, a cylindrical concrete tower built in 1940, stands 27 meters tall and is situated on a promontory about 10 km southeast of Iwaki. It emits a white light with a single flash every 15 seconds. The lighthouse has a history of damage and repair, including destruction by a 1938 earthquake, heavy damage from a WWII air raid that required repairs in 1947, and inactivation following the 2011 earthquake before resuming service in November of that year. The accompanying museum reopened in February 2014 after earthquake damage. The station is currently staffed and faces ongoing challenges from coastal erosion.
