About Shiogama Range Rear Lighthouse
The Shiogama Range Rear light was a square pyramidal skeletal steel tower, painted white, standing 21 meters tall. It featured a gallery and served as part of the Shiogama Range system. This rear light was positioned 256 meters west of the front light to aid vessels navigating the waters around Shiogama, Japan. Mariners used the alignment of both lights to maintain a safe and precise course into or out of the port. The structure ceased operations in 2014 and was subsequently removed.
Why it matters: This range rear light was essential for guiding ships through the Shiogama area, providing a critical alignment for vessels entering or leaving the port.
