About Shimonoseki Range Rear Lighthouse
The Shimonoseki Range Rear Lighthouse was established in 1901. This cylindrical cast iron tower stands 5 meters tall with a focal height of 21 meters. An arrow-shaped daymark encircles the light. It emits a continuous yellow flash. The lighthouse is located on a bluff 163 meters west-southwest of the front range light, above the north side of the San'yōdō expressway.
Why it matters: This rear range light works with its companion front light to guide vessels through a specific channel or approach.
