The Shi'b Qaham lighthouse is located on the northern edge of a reef approximately 1.9 kilometers from Jeddah. The current structure stands 14 meters tall and features a square tower base supporting a platform with a black rectangular daymark. Its light emits a single white flash every 20 seconds, with a geographic range of 11.6 nautical miles. This navigational aid has been present in some form since at least 1900, originally noted as a white stone beacon. Access to the site is by boat only, and the structure is not open to the public.
Why it matters: Shi'b Qaham warns vessels of the reef it marks, a hazard within the busy Red Sea shipping lane near Jeddah, and has been a navigational aid since at least 1900.
