About Ghurāb Lighthouse
Also known as: Ghurāb (North Ghurāb)
Ghurāb, also known as North Ghurāb, is situated off the northern end of the Farasān island group in the Red Sea. This red beacon features a distinctive large tripod design. The lighthouse was established to guide maritime traffic through these waters, likely marking shipping lanes or warning vessels of submerged hazards. It remained active until 2019. While the site is accessible to visitors by boat, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: Its presence helped to safeguard maritime routes near the island it marked, preventing potential groundings or collisions in these waters.
