About Scarlett Point Lighthouse
Scarlett Point Lighthouse is located on the northeastern tip of Balaklava Island, off Vancouver Island's north coast, about 15 kilometers northwest of Port Hardy. The current round steel tower, standing 11 meters tall, was built in 1965 to replace the original structure from 1905. It features an octagonal lantern painted red and emits a white flash every 5 seconds, with a focal height of 24 meters. The lighthouse is operational and has a geographic range of 14.1 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the northeastern point of Balaklava Island, offering a key navigational reference for vessels in the waters off northern Vancouver Island.
