Satado Misaki Lighthouse

Fl White 15s🇯🇵Tokyo, JPOperational

A round, cylindrical concrete tower painted white, the Satado Misaki Lighthouse was first lit in 1954. It stands 14 meters tall on a bluff on the east side of Miyakejima. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 15 seconds. Originally, a one-story concrete keeper's house was attached to the tower, but this was removed after 2011. Solar panels have since been installed to power the light. Its focal height reaches 36 meters, providing a geographic range of 16.4 nautical miles.

Why it matters: The light warns vessels of the eastern bluff of Miyakejima, an island known for its unpredictable coastal conditions and active volcano, aiding safe passage.
