About Santkari Beacon Lighthouse
The Santkari Beacon, built in 1857, is an octagonal wooden tower with a pyramidal roof, standing 20 meters tall. It is painted red with white trim and is situated on a small island at the southern approach to Rauma. Originally serving as a daybeacon, its primary function was to provide a visual reference for mariners navigating the coastal channels leading to the port. The structure underwent restoration in 2009. While the site is open to the public, the tower itself remains closed to visitors.
Why it matters: This beacon is a notable example of early Finnish navigational structures due to its unique octagonal wood construction from 1857. As a restored historic landmark, it contributes to the cultural heritage of the Rauma archipelago.
