It emits a red light, flashing once every 5 seconds, with a geographic range of 9 nautical miles. Constructed of metal, the tower stands on Santa Rita Island, north of the San Juanico Strait's entrance. The nearest port is Tacloban, Leyte, approximately 10.8 kilometers away. Satellite imagery does not show any trace of the structure.
Why it matters: This light marked the northern entrance to the San Juanico Strait, a narrow and challenging waterway.
