About Saßnitz Oberfeuer Lighthouse
Built in 1977, the Saßnitz Oberfeuer is a square skeletal tower constructed of metal, standing 13 meters tall. Its focal height is 11 meters, and it emits an isophase white light on a 6-second cycle, visible for 15 nautical miles. The tower is painted white and features a triangular daymark outlined in red. Located near the waterfront of Saßnitz harbor, it served as an upper range light. This structure was deactivated in 2024.
Why it matters: This range light was essential for vessels navigating the Saßnitz harbor, a significant port for fishing and ferry traffic on Rügen, guiding ships entering and leaving the busy waterfront.
