About Sandssund Lighthouse
Also known as: Sandssund (Lille Dyna)
Sandssund Lighthouse, situated on a skerry in Troms, Norway, served as a navigational aid in the Sandssund passage. This conical stone tower, standing 7 meters tall, was originally painted white with a red roof. The structure functioned as a light until 2015, when its operations ceased. Its deactivation was due to the construction of a new causeway and bridge connecting Grytøya and Sandsøya. The lantern was removed by 2022, leaving the stone cairn to serve as a daybeacon.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for safe passage through the Sandssund, a waterway connecting Grytøya and Sandsøya. Its deactivation highlights the impact of modern infrastructure on maritime navigation.
