About Sainte-Pétronille Lighthouse
Also known as: Sainte-Pétronille (Beaulieu, Pointe du Bout de l'Île)
The Sainte-Pétronille Lighthouse is a 14.5-meter tall cylindrical steel tower built in 1957. It emits a yellow flash every five seconds. The current structure replaced an earlier wooden tower that was destroyed by fire in 1934. Following the demolition of the wharf it stood on, the skeletal tower was moved to its present location in a parking lot in 1983. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the southwestern tip of the island, a key navigational point for local maritime traffic, guiding vessels safely around this geographic feature.
