Rune Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Rune Lighthouse
Rune Lighthouse, a cylindrical white tower standing 8 meters tall, is situated on a promontory at the end of Måsholmsvågen in Arendal, near Gothenburg. This structure, featuring a lantern and gallery, was painted white and served as a daybeacon. Its operational life as a primary navigational light concluded around 1962, at which point the Knippelholmen lighthouse assumed its role. Although deactivated, the tower is often floodlit at night, maintaining its visibility. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked the northern approach to Gothenburg, guiding vessels into the port. It provides a tangible connection to the historical shipping routes of the Gothenburg archipelago.
