About Ørsvåg Lighthouse
The Ørsvåg Lighthouse is a 6-meter-tall square skeletal tower with a lantern and gallery, standing on a bluff on the east side of Sagøy. Its focal height reaches 27 meters above sea level, providing a geographic range of 14.7 nautical miles. The light emits an occulting white, red, or green signal that changes every 6 seconds, indicating its aspect. This structure, built in 1951, replaced an earlier light first established in 1862. The original lighthouse from the 19th century was sold and removed in 1960. The tower's lantern roof is painted red, contrasting with the white structure.
Why it matters: Established in 1862, this light has a long history of aiding vessels navigating the waters west of Kabelvåg. Its directional light provides specific guidance for approaching Ørsvåg harbor and Sagøy.
