Rotvær Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Rotvær Lighthouse
The Rotvær Lighthouse is a cylindrical fiberglass tower built in 1985, standing 13 meters tall with a focal height of 22 meters. It is situated at the eastern end of an island, forming part of a dangerous reef approximately 6 kilometers south-southwest of Lødingen. The lighthouse emits an occulting white, red, and green light that lasts 6 seconds. The current structure replaced an earlier lighthouse that featured a lantern on the roof of a keeper's house, which was demolished when the new tower was erected. It continues to be an active aid to navigation, guiding vessels through the area.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for maritime safety, warning ships away from the dangerous reef system it guards near Lødingen.
