Rivingen Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Rivingen Lighthouse
Established in 1886, Rivingen lighthouse is situated on a small island approximately 2.5 kilometers south of Grimstad. The original structure, an 8-meter cylindrical tower with a focal height of 12 meters, featured a sharply pyramidal roof and a spire attached to a keeper's house. This white tower emitted a white light with three flashes in varying colors every five seconds. It served as a navigational aid for vessels approaching Grimstad's harbor for almost four decades. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1925, and a new, smaller tower was later erected to the north-northwest of the original site.
Why it matters: Its unique architectural form, featuring a sharply pyramidal roof and spire, makes it a distinctive example among Norwegian lighthouses.
