About Riposto (Punta Chiancona) Lighthouse
This lighthouse, built in 1903, is a cylindrical masonry tower standing 8 meters tall. The tower is integrated with a one-story masonry keeper's house. Located on Punta Chiancona near Riposto, it served the eastern coast of Sicily. The structure's design combines the operational tower with adjacent living quarters. It provided a white light with a long flash characteristic on a 5-second cycle. Though no longer active, the lighthouse remains on its original site.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was important for guiding vessels into and out of Riposto's port, a significant hub for fishing and trade on Sicily's eastern coast. Its integrated design also represents a notable example of early 20th-century Italian lighthouse architecture.
