About Rikuzen Nagasaki Kō Lighthouse
Also known as: #Rikuzen Nagasaki Kō (Yama Bana)
This concrete post lighthouse, standing 9.5 meters tall, is located at the end of the main breakwater in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, east of Iō Shima. It is a square, 1-story concrete equipment building with a concrete post. The original structure was destroyed by a tsunami, which also damaged the breakwater. Following the event, a buoy temporarily marked the harbor entrance before a simple post light was installed in 2015. The nearest port, Sakihama, is 1.9 kilometers away.
Why it matters: The replacement light continues to guide vessels into the Nagasaki harbor, a historically significant port on the east side of Iō Shima.
