About Rataskär Övrefyr Lighthouse
Also known as: Rataskär Övrefyr (Rataskärs Båk)
Rataskär Övrefyr is an octagonal wooden tower built in 1828, standing 18 meters tall. It features a pyramidal wood roof and a distinctive red and white checkerboard pattern on one side. Originally a simple beacon, it later served as an active light. The tower's focal height is 9 meters, and it has a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. Today, its illuminating function is inactive, but the structure is maintained. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The tower serves as the rear marker for a day range, providing essential visual guidance for vessels approaching Ratan harbor. Its unique checkerboard pattern aids in precise navigation.
