About Ría de Vigo South Side Lighthouses Lighthouse
This octagonal stone tower stands 30 meters tall with a focal height of 85 meters, positioned on Cabo Silleiro at the southern entrance to the Ría de Vigo. Built in 1924, the lighthouse displays red and white horizontal bands and is attached to a two-story keeper's complex. It emits two white flashes and one white flash every 15 seconds, visible for 23.2 nautical miles. The lighthouse was destaffed and transferred to local control in 2020, with plans for the keeper's complex to become a boutique hotel. Its lantern was temporarily removed for restoration in 2021 and has since been returned.
Why it matters: The lighthouse serves as a primary landfall light for vessels approaching Vigo and the numerous ports of Galicia, using its strategic location on Cabo Silleiro as a key navigational reference.
