About Punta Perret Lighthouse
The Punta Perret lighthouse is situated on a cape on the west side of the Gulf of Venezuela, about 7 kilometers south of the Colombian border. The current square concrete tower, which includes a lantern and gallery, stands 24 meters tall. Its focal height reaches 26 meters, and it emits a white flash every 15 seconds. The station was first established in 1980, initially with a small skeletal tower. This was replaced by a fiberglass tower in 1993, followed by a tall skeletal tower in 2003. The present concrete structure was built in 2010.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is important for safe navigation within the Gulf of Venezuela, assisting vessels transiting near the international border with Colombia and approaching the western coast.
