About Punta de Senokozulúa Lighthouse
Also known as: Punta de Senokozulúa (Punta de Cruces)
Completed in 1909, the Punta de Senokozulúa lighthouse is an octagonal stone tower 9 meters tall, attached to a single-story stone keeper's house. Its focal plane is 52 meters above sea level, and it has a geographic range of 19 nautical miles. The light displays two white, red, or green flashes every 12 seconds, depending on the sector. This lighthouse is situated on a bluff on the west side of the channel, about 2.5 km north of Pasaia. The site is open to visitors, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for maritime safety, specifically guiding ships through the notoriously narrow and intricate entrance to the Bahía de Pasajes. Its unique directional light system, displaying white, red, or green depending on the sector, provides critical real-time navigation cues for vessels approaching the port.
