Location & Light Range
About Pulau Beras Basah Lighthouse
A square pyramidal metal tower with a gallery, enclosed with metal plates, stands 35 meters tall. Its focal plane is situated 36 meters above sea level. This structure emits five white flashes every 20 seconds, visible for a geographic range of 16.4 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located on the beach of Pulau Beras Basah, an island near the Equator. Following a period of disrepair by 2009, restoration efforts in 2011 returned the tower to good condition. While the island site is open to visitors, the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks a position near the Equator, assisting vessels navigating shipping lanes around Bontang.
