The Puerto Viejo de Azua lighthouse, established in 1915, was situated at the eastern end of a barrier island protecting the harbor entrance of the Port of Azua in Bahía de las Calderas. The current 15-meter square skeletal tower, painted black, was built around 1990. Earlier structures included an 11-meter skeletal tower and a shorter concrete tower erected in the 1970s or 1980s. The light produced two white flashes every 9 seconds, with a geographic range of 14.1 nautical miles. The Admiralty listed the station as destroyed in 1997. Satellite imagery from 2005 showed the lighthouse, but it is no longer visible.

Why it matters: The lighthouse aided vessels navigating the Bahía de las Calderas and safeguarded the entrance to the Port of Azua.
