About Pot à l'Eau-de-Vie Lighthouse
Also known as: Pot à l'Eau-de-Vie (Brandy Pot)
Constructed in 1862, the Pot à l'Eau-de-Vie lighthouse stands as a 15-meter cylindrical white tower rising from the center of an attached 1-1/2 story keeper's house. Located in the Pèlerins Archipelago off Rivière-du-Loup, it served the east end of the island. The light was first lit in 1862 and remained operational until 1964. Following its deactivation, the structure deteriorated rapidly. The Société Duvetnor purchased the archipelago in 1979 and leased the lighthouse, undertaking a restoration in 1989 that included installing a replica lantern. The lighthouse is now open to the public as a bed and breakfast inn.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is significant as a successful heritage preservation project, transformed into a tourist destination that revitalizes the island and draws visitors to its history and natural environment.
