Porto Alghero Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Porto Alghero Lighthouse
The Porto Conte Lighthouse is a cylindrical concrete tower standing 8 meters tall, located on a promontory west of Alghero within the bay of Porto Conte. Its focal height reaches 17 meters, projecting a white light that flashes once every 3 seconds. The station was established in 1919, initially featuring an iron tower before the current concrete structure was built. This structure includes a lantern and gallery, and the lighthouse is operational, providing a geographic range of 12.4 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: Its position on the promontory clearly delineates the western entrance to the bay, preventing groundings on the rocky coastline and guiding vessels towards the port of Alghero.
