About Pointe du Lac Range Rear Lighthouse
The Pointe du Lac Range Rear light is a 34-meter-high square skeletal tower. Its focal plane is 49 meters above water level. The light emits a green flash (F G) every 3 seconds. The tower is orange with a black vertical stripe and supports a daymark of the same color scheme. First lit in 1906, this marker is situated on the north bank at the downstream exit of Lac Saint-Pierre, close to Trois-Rivières. While the site is accessible, the tower is not open for climbing.
Why it matters: This range light serves as a navigation aid for eastbound ships transiting the 32-kilometer section of Lac Saint-Pierre, which widens the St. Lawrence estuary.
