Pointe des Monts Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Pointe des Monts Lighthouse
The Pointe des Monts lighthouse, built of stone in 1830, stands 27.5 meters tall. Its cylindrical tower features two broad red horizontal bands against a white background. A small square lantern room sits atop a platform-like gallery. This structure is located about 4 km southwest of Baie Trinité, marking a point on the St. Lawrence River. The lighthouse became inactive in 2000. In 1964, Jacques Landry and his wife saved it from demolition, and it was transferred to the government of Québec the following year. The site is now open to the public and includes a museum within the tower.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is one of Canada's oldest navigational aids, marking a critical point along the St. Lawrence River's northern shore.
