About Pointe de Berre Lighthouse
A square skeletal tower, standing 10 meters tall, marks Pointe de Berre. It is painted red with a white horizontal band and rests on a square masonry base. The light is positioned at the end of a quay within an oil terminal on the northeast side of the Étang de Berre. This large lagoon, covering 155 square kilometers, connects to the Mediterranean Sea via the Canal de Caronte. The focal height of the light is 12 meters, and it emits four white or red flashes every 15 seconds, visible for 11 nautical miles. The structure is made of steel and masonry.
Why it matters: The light is essential for guiding vessels approaching and departing the oil terminal quay, facilitating safe passage for industrial maritime traffic through the lagoon and the Canal de Caronte.
