Pine Island Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Pine Island Lighthouse
A white, cylindrical steel tower stands 10.5 meters tall on a small island located at the entrance of Queen Charlotte Strait from Queen Charlotte Sound. This structure, built in 2001, has a focal height of 28 meters and emits a red flash every 10 seconds. The lighthouse features square pyramidal skeletal bracing and was preceded by earlier structures, including one heavily damaged by a large wave in February 1967. The station is managed by the Canadian Coast Guard and is not open to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is indispensable for mariners navigating the confluence of Queen Charlotte Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound, guiding them through a complex entrance.
