About Pictou Lighthouse Museum Lighthouse
Also known as: [Pictou Lighthouse Museum]
This 9-meter tall square tower, built in 2008, stands on a short pier on the Pictou waterfront. Constructed from wood, it features a square lantern and gallery, all centered atop a two-story museum building. The structure is a two-thirds scale replica of the 1916 Caribou Light. It was designed to house Rip Irwin's extensive collection of lighthouse photographs and artifacts. The museum is operated by the Northumberland Fisheries Museum and is open to the public during the summer season, excluding Sundays.
Why it matters: The Pictou Lighthouse Museum preserves the architectural memory of the 1916 Caribou Light through its detailed replica and serves as the permanent home for Rip Irwin's significant collection of Nova Scotia lighthouse artifacts and research.
