About Palermo Molo Sud Lighthouse
Also known as: #Palermo Molo Sud (Molo C.T. Bersagliere)
This cylindrical lighthouse, standing 8 meters tall, was painted with horizontal red and white bands. It featured a lantern and gallery atop a structure attached to a one-story pierhead building. The lighthouse marked the end of the south breakwater at Palermo harbor, with its light visible for 5 nautical miles. Its light characteristic consisted of four white flashes every 15 seconds. This navigational aid was removed in 2020 when the pier was shortened and replaced by a light on a red post.
Why it matters: The lighthouse served to guide vessels safely into Palermo harbor by marking the end of the south breakwater.
