About Ostrov Sedlovatyy Lighthouse
Ostrov Sedlovatyy Lighthouse, built in 2006, is a 12-meter cylindrical wood tower attached to a one-story wood equipment shelter. Its focal height reaches 27 meters, and it emits a green flash every 7 seconds. The tower is painted red. This structure replaced an earlier station established in 1903, which had significantly deteriorated. The lighthouse is located on an island on the western side of the Kola Bay channel, approximately 3 kilometers north of Polyarnyy.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the channel through Kola Bay, a key waterway for maritime traffic in the Russian Arctic.
