About Orange County Lighthouse Lighthouse
First illuminated in 1853, this lighthouse guides mariners on the Hudson River near West Point. The current 10-meter-tall skeletal steel tower, built on a square cylindrical design, has a focal height of 12 meters. Its green light emits a quick flash every second. The original structure saw several replacements; a hexagonal wood tower was erected in 1872, followed by an octagonal wood tower with a lantern and gallery. The lighthouse is situated on Gee's Point, the easternmost tip of West Point, below the U.S. Military Academy campus. It offers a geographic range of 11 nautical miles, helping vessels navigate this stretch of the river.
