About Onahama Kō Lighthouse
This red, cylindrical concrete tower stands 13 meters tall with a focal height of 19 meters. It is located at the end of Onahama's new outer breakwater in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. The lighthouse emits a single red flash every 7 seconds, visible for 12.9 nautical miles. The lantern has been removed from the structure. Although the site is accessible, the tower itself is closed to the public, and it is only reachable by boat.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the end of the new outer breakwater, guiding vessels safely into Onahama harbor and preventing collisions with the structure.
