About Okushiri Kō Lighthouse
The Okushiri Kō lighthouse, first illuminated in 1966, is a white, cylindrical concrete tower measuring 11 meters in height. Its lantern, situated 12 meters above sea level, casts a green light with a characteristic of Fl G 3s, observable up to 11 nautical miles. The structure features a round, hourglass form topped with a lantern and gallery. It is located on a detached breakwater guarding the Okushiri harbor entrance on the eastern side of Okushiri island, approximately 0.3 km from the port. Evidence indicates a possible move from an earlier east breakwater location.
Why it matters: This navigation aid marks the detached breakwater, providing a reference for vessels entering Okushiri harbor.
