About Oksøy Lighthouse
The Oksøy Lighthouse, built in 1900, stands on a small island at the entrance to Kristiansandsfjorden. This cylindrical cast iron tower, standing 36 meters tall, is painted white with two narrow red horizontal bands. It emits a white flash every 45 seconds. The lighthouse served as a staffed station until 2004, and its original 1st order Fresnel lens remains in use. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: Oksøy Lighthouse serves as a landfall light for Kristiansand and brackets the entrance to Kristiansandsfjorden, guiding vessels to this significant port city.
