Okino Se Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Okino Se Lighthouse
Okino Se lighthouse, a concrete cylindrical tower standing 13 meters tall, was first lit in 1982. Its exterior is painted black with a single red horizontal band. The lighthouse features a white light that flashes once every 5 seconds. Its focal height reaches 15 meters above the water. The structure has a round, vase-like shape and is situated on a reef approximately 10 kilometers east of the Kuroshima Strait, off the southeast coast of Ōshima. While the site is accessible by boat, the tower itself is closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for safe passage through the waters east of the Kuroshima Strait, warning mariners of the submerged reef. Its light characteristic helps vessels navigate coastal shipping lanes around Ōshima.
