About Oakville Lighthouse
Also known as: Oakville (relocated)
A hexagonal wooden tower, painted white with a red lantern, stands as the Oakville Lighthouse. Originally built in 1889, it measured 7.5 meters in height. This structure served the community for over seventy years before ceasing operations in 1960. Following its decommissioning, the lighthouse was moved to a new location on the southwest side of Sixteen Mile Creek. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The Oakville Lighthouse serves as a physical connection to the town's early maritime history and the historical navigation of Sixteen Mile Creek and Lake Ontario.
