Nyksund Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Nyksund Lighthouse
First lit in 1899, the Nyksund lighthouse is a 3-meter octagonal lantern structure painted white with a red roof. It stands 14.5 meters above sea level on the north coast of Langløy, marking the entrance to Nyksund harbor. The light displays white, red, or green and provides an occulting flash characteristic every six seconds. The village of Nyksund was abandoned in the 1970s but has since experienced a revival. The lighthouse was reactivated to serve this re-emerging community.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for guiding vessels safely into Nyksund harbor. Its reactivation supports the revival of the historic fishing village, aiding both local and visiting craft.
