About Nygrån Lighthouse
This round, concrete tower, erected in 1970, reaches a height of 21 meters with its light positioned at 19 meters. It presents a white exterior adorned with a single black horizontal band. The structure, which includes a lantern and gallery, emits an occulting light pattern (WGR 8s) visible for 12.9 nautical miles. Situated on a shoal in the Gulf of Bothnia, it lies approximately 13.1 km from Pitea. The preceding lighthouse was lost to ice in 1969. The site is accessible, but the tower interior remains closed.
Why it matters: This navigation aid marks a shoal in the Gulf of Bothnia, providing directional information for ships. Its rebuilding after the previous structure was lost demonstrates its ongoing function for maritime safety in this area.
