About Nyūdō Saki Lighthouse
This lighthouse stands on the northern tip of the Oga Peninsula in Akita Prefecture, Northern Honshū. It is a large structure, painted in white and black bands. The light emits a white flash every 15 seconds from a focal height of 57 meters. Its geographic range extends for 20 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated on the 40th parallel north.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is paired with the Rikuchū Kuro Saki lighthouse on the Pacific coast, marking the 40th parallel north. It has been recognized as one of Japan's 50 most beautiful lighthouses.
