North East Island Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About North East Island Lighthouse
Established in 1992, the North East Island light is located on a small island off the northeast side of Deal Island, Australia. The structure is a 4-meter-tall white fiberglass cabinet. It emits a white light with four flashes every 20 seconds from a focal height of 107 meters, providing a geographic range of 25.6 nautical miles. This automated light replaced the navigational function of the older Deal Island lighthouse. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority manages its operation. It is situated in the Flinders Council region.
Why it matters: This light ensured continued navigational safety in the waters near Deal Island after the older lighthouse was decommissioned.
