Mosher Island Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Mosher Island Lighthouse
The current Mosher Island Lighthouse, a white fiberglass tower standing 11 meters tall, was first lit in 1989. It replaced an earlier structure from 1953. The tower features a red lantern and gallery and is situated on the west side of the entrance to the LaHave River. Its focal height reaches 23 meters, providing a geographic range of 13.8 nautical miles. A single white flash characteristic marks its operation. The site is open to the public, but the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: The destruction of its 1953 predecessor in 1989 prompted national lighthouse preservation efforts. The Mosher Island Lighthouse Preservation Society was formed in 1996 in response.
