Location & Light Range
About Morups Tånge Lighthouse
This cylindrical stone tower, standing 28 meters tall, was built and first lit in 1843. Its white exterior is distinguished by two narrow black horizontal bands. The lighthouse is situated on a low peninsula that extends into the Kattegat, about 8 kilometers west of Falkenberg. Its light emits an occulting white, red, and green signal with a cycle of 8 seconds. The structure features a lantern and gallery, and its focal height reaches 29 meters. In 1975, the lighthouse underwent restoration, and a preservation group was established in 2012 to aid in its upkeep.
Why it matters: The original 2nd order Fresnel lens, operational since 1843, is among the oldest continuously active lenses globally and the oldest in Sweden. This light guides vessels around the Morups Tånge peninsula into the Kattegat.
