Mitchener Point Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Mitchener Point Lighthouse
A cylindrical fiberglass tower, 10 meters in height, stands at Mitchener Point. It is painted red with two narrow white horizontal bands. The station was established in 1908, with the original tower being a square wooden structure. The current fiberglass tower was built in 1972 and first lit that same year. Its light was extinguished in 2001, and the lighthouse has been inactive since. The site is now private property and the tower is not accessible to the public.
Why it matters: The lighthouse aided navigation in the Avon River estuary, a waterway significant for local shipping and trade, helping mariners navigate this particular stretch of river.
